Food menus and how we personalise diets Cerrig yr afon one of the best respite nursing home Bangor has a team of four kitchen staff consisting of two professional cooks and two trained assistants. We provide a varied menu to cater for individual dietary needs and our kitchen staff are trained in healthy eating and to recognise the importance of a well-balanced diet and nutritional foods. The use of salt, sugar and fatty foods are kept to a minimum as some of our Service Users are either looking to achieve a healthy body weight or are diabetic.

We ensure that all our Service Users have meals which consist of daily portions of fresh fruit and vegetables, which contain vitamins, minerals and healthy omega fatty acids which can help protect against heart disease, and is particularly important for those who have already suffered a heart attack. Fatty acids have also been shown to help alleviate symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. We always ensure that snacks and juices are offered throughout the day and we keep records of each personís food and fluid intake. Some people may favour certain foods and we always do our utmost to ensure they are given meals which they will enjoy and which will encourage them to eat properly.

Our kitchen is always kept spotlessly clean and we pride ourselves in our 5 star ratings which we achieve each year due to our efficient deep cleaning and hygiene standards. We have a choice available on our menu which changes daily and we take into account any special diets as advised by the nursing team on admission.

Our cooks, Averil and Sylwen, have often been praised for their foresight in anticipating how each Service User prefers their meals, as everybody is different. Some people like small portions with the option to have more later on, some just prefer to eat in their rooms, and others like the social event of eating in our dining room. In any case, our cooks like keep everyone happy and content and they are pleased to accommodate most requests as long as it is not detrimental to any medical conditions.
