The garden at Cerrig yr Afon Here at Cerrig yr afon residents can enjoy a variety of activities which help to keep minds active, stimulated and entertained and one of those activities is gardening, even if it is only minimal. We try to ensure that in the warmer months our residents have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and the sunshine combined with an activity of some description.

Gardening has many health and therapeutic benefits helping to increase levels of physical activity, mobility and flexibility. Our equipment and tools have all been modified to create a garden that is interesting, accessible and productive. The wild life aspect is always a big favourite with bees, squirrels and a variety of birds which visit the gardens throughout the year.

Some medical conditions and physical disabilities can sometimes restrict a few of our residents from participating in gardening. However, we have created a safe and pleasant space which most people are able to enjoy - we have shaded areas and seating, and lightweight tools for those who want to do some potting and planting on a table if they prefer.

Some of our residents have been keen gardeners in the past, so we like to ensure that they are able to enjoy the flowers that were planted in the previous season. On fine days residents also enjoy biscuits, coffee and tea, juices, sandwiches, cakes, scones and lemonade outdoors. During the summer months we also have barbeques, car boot sales, cake and clothes stalls and music. This always attracts a lot of relatives and friends too, and the atmosphere this creates always gives a real boost to our residents.
