This year at Cerrig yr Afon residents have enjoyed a number of Christmas activities throughout December. At the beginning of the month, our Activities co-ordinator, along with two of our care staff and a couple of our residents, spent an afternoon in the Table Table restaurant in Caernarfon. We enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch together and we had a game of bingo while we were there which is always a favourite activity with many of our residents. We enjoyed looking at the boats in the harbour where the restaurant is situated before heading off back home. Once back at Cerrig yr Afon many of our residents and staff had gathered in the lounge ready for the David Hughes school choir who were arriving to sing some Christmas carols for us. It was lovely to see residents happily singing along and a few enjoyed having their photos taken with the pupils before having their afternoon tea and biscuits.
Each Christmas at Cerrig yr Afon we hold a Christmas fair. This year, we had Santa in his Grotto and any children who came to visit our home received a gift from him. We also had a bauble hunt (which is similar to the Easter egg hunt) face painting, glitter tattoos and a snow man colouring-in competition for any children or residents who wished to take part. On sale were some delicious homemade bara brith which one of our cooks had made, also homemade mince pies made by one of our carers and chocolate and vanilla fairy cakes which our Activities lady enjoyed making . We also had a lovely stall full of beautiful artificial flower displays which one of our domestic staff had put together. At the fair, we also held a raffle and a tombola stall which helped raise funds for our residents activities. Some lovely prizes were donated to us from Waitrose, Morrisons and Matalan.
Residents, as always, enjoyed their Christmas party which was held in the middle of December. We had games, a buffet and live music from Merid Hughes who sings in both English and Welsh. It was good to see residents and their families together and also staff joining in at the party having fun. Residents will also be looking forward to Christmas day turkey roast with all the trimmings, freshly cooked by our catering staff, who always work hard to make Christmas special for them.
Soon it will be Christmas Day – and so, from everyone at Cerrig yr Afon, we would like to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – and we would also like to take this opportunity to say a massive "thank you” to everyone who helps to make a difference to our residents.
"Merry Christmas and a happy New Year -Nadolig Llawen , Blwyddyn Newydd Dda, and Thank you very much, Diolch yn Fawr iawn”
